Riding Couple, also known by the German title Reitendes Paar, was painted by Wassily Kandinsky in 1906-1907. The original is an oil painting on canvas in the collection of the Lenbachhaus in Munich. It shows a couple on horseback in a dark blue scene filled with decorative color, glowing city lights, trees, and patterned detail.
This work belongs to Kandinsky’s early period, before his full move into pure abstraction. The painting still shows recognizable figures and landscape, but the intense blues, small color marks, rhythmic surface, and dreamlike atmosphere already point toward his later interest in color, movement, and emotional expression.
